We’ll discuss the archetypal understanding of the play’s characters, represented as three areas of Mind. The unconscious, the conscious, and what can be called the supra-conscious areas of the mind that are played out by the characters Caliban, Prospero, and Ariel. Shakespeare seems to present us with much to discuss – magic, self-deception, betrayal, sex, revenge, forced colonization; as well as give-for, redemption, and love . . . and oh - some weather.
